Dawger's New Toy

Dawger was at Jib Fest this week working on a little project he and Gunny have in the works...He had a nice new RED Epic camera with him.....needless to say...this thing is NOT cheap...
The Epic Camera by RED can shoot 5k resolution at 120 frames a second, and is being used all over Hollywood these days. Film is quickly becoming a thing of the past.

Mike was just getting used to it and its functions...Not the simplest camera to operate from what I understand.

Always good to see old friends.

NIxon Jibfest 2011

This week I was lucky enough to get invited to film the Nixon Jib Fest event....This is the 1st time in 8 years the Jib Fest happened and it definitely lived up to the hype...Many of the best jibbers in the world were there and the sessions went off. 3 days of the sun equaled perfect filming conditions and a pile of shots. Everyone had such a good time. Cant wait to see the edits.

Hopefully In N Out gets Kobe Beef soon.

"We came out here for this?"

We finally made it to the Spiral Jetty....I was super impressed. Mu was not...HA...

The Spiral Jetty is on the Northern tip of the Great Salt Lake. It was art project created by this guy named Robert Smithson in 1970...I guess he just started stacking rocks. The area is pretty surreal and almost feels like you're on another planet.

Salt residue is everywhere...Mu got caught checking some out.

The Salt Lake is really just a puddle. Only 30 feet deep at the very deepest point and usually only about 8 feet deep. Only one species lives in the water and little to no plant life from what i understand. Its pretty cool though and I really cant wait to go back out there a check it out again.

Oil Jetty's

You'd think if you lived in a city called Salt Lake you might actually go and check out the lake once in a while. Well, it took me 4 years...

El Toro

On the way out to the Spiral Jetty in Northern Utah the other day we came upon The Bull. His posture says it all............

I tried to get a closer photo but he wasn't having it. Moved right out of the road.....Bummer.

Pitstop-Hailey, Idaho

On the way back home from Sun Valley the crew had to stop in Hailey to cruise through the skatepark there. This park is basically built for pro vert skaters and in my opinion is somewhat of a waste of city money. How are kids who have not grown up around skateboarding gonna learn on 13ft vert trannies? None the less we had fun shooting some photos and talking with some of the local groms.

Sani and I did some fun follow lines....

While Grilo and Mu shot some pretty good photos of us on our cameras. Always fun to have!

A little help

We brought the dolly setup out for some moving shots at this Sun Valley shoot this week and I've been trying to have the other guys to run it whenever possible while I'm shooting other angles. Grilo was super hyped to give it a try last night and ended up with some seriously good shots and angle ideas. Not bad for a Yugo;)

Always a room with a view

When lucky enough to be in Tokyo we usually stay at this amazing hotel called Cerulean towers. Its located in Shibuya and has some of the best views possible. Perfect for time lapsing out the window or shooting photos of all sorts.

Ahhh, Nightime in Sun Valley

I snuck out for a night timelapse the other night. Came out pretty rad. I wished I could have left it longer but I didn't want to have to wake up at 3am and hike a mtn to get it. Early in the shot there were a bunch of snowcats working on the mtn.

Is this Legal?

On the way to Sun Valley we stopped to check out the Twin Falls bridge and met these dudes. Apparently it's totally legal to jump off this bridge and they were taking full advantage of it.

Looks pretty damn fun although I'm not doing it anytime soon

Next stop, Idaho

The crew headed up to Idaho for 4 days of filming. Its been a great time already and the jumps Sun Valley built are super good!!

Andro's 1st Trip to Utah

And we run out of gas on I-70...

Its okay...I made Andro skate to the gas station

He got a bit tired so he just hitchhiked.

In all honesty Andro is the european Burton filmer. He's from Slovenia. He and I got to cruise from Aspen to SLC yesterday. Its always rad to see peoples 1st reaction to our massive and diverse country. Some of my favorite quotes were..."Geez, there are so many different kinds of fast food restaurants"....Or, "This is my 1st time to Taco Bell...Mountain Dew is soo good"....HA....we had a great time!

The Rain/Snow Line

Family night at the bar ensued as did a nice rain storm that quickly became inches upon inches of snow. Its always weird when its 70 degrees one day and the next it snow's 15"....Spring in the Rockies rules.
I had Mu shoot a quick lifey...it was snowing so hard though-the lens got a bit salty.

Jen got a bit sentimental on the cab ride home.

I asked the cabby to pull over so we could shoot this other idea i had with Mu...It came out super good (saving that one)...Not really sure what the girls were doing at this point?

Alpine Isn't Dead

Mu came to town this week in between trips. We've been shooting and riding a bunch and it made me think back to a trip we did to Austria last spring..

As we drove up the road to a pretty epic resort called Solden, Mu and Sani warned me..."Alpine Snowboarding Isn't Dead in Solden"...people are still keeping the dream alive.

For those of you that didnt know. Alpine is basically snowboarders wearing ski boots with really weird stances that just carve down the hill the entire day. Its something that was somewhat popular 15 years ago...

Luckily we figured out a way to document this amazing phenomenon.

The Largest Spectator Sport in America

For a damn good reason....
This guys really exists and this wasn't a costume and you got to watch him in addition to the race.

Jimmie Johnson's team provided us with the pit passes for the race. So naturally we were very grateful and wanted him to win....He ended up taking the lead with 2 laps to go...

And then lost the lead in the last corner to Kevin Harvick...Bummer!.....Harvick's crew pushed him into Victory Lane after burning the tires off his car in the ceremonial burnout.

Fans were walking up and taking home rubber leftover from the burnout. Not sure what they planned on doing with it?

Such a great event and I can't wait to go again....Thanks again for the tickets Bryan.
